ICorr Level 3 Coating Inspection

Level 3 personnel are qualified to:

  • Direct any inspection or test operation for which they are certified;
  • Assume full responsibility for an inspection or test facility and staff;
  • Establish and/or validate work instructions or procedures;
  • Interpret normative documents;
  • Designate the extent of inspection and the particular test methods and procedures to be used.

Level 3 personnel have demonstrated:

  • Competence to interpret and evaluate inspection or test results in terms of existing normative documents;
  • Possession of a scope and level of knowledge sufficient to enable the individual to select inspection methods and tests, and to assist in the establishment of inspection and test criteria where none are otherwise available;
  • general familiarity with coating materials, fabrics and structures protected by painting and coating, application methods and associated areas;
  • The ability to guide personnel below Level 3.

To achieve this professional certificate, core and specialist online modules (outlined on page 4) must be studied and online multiple choice assessments passed with 100% prior to attending a mandatory advanced practical and theoretical workshop and final assessment.
Section 10.2.5 of NORSOK M-501 states: Personnel carrying out inspection or verification shall be qualified in accordance with Norwegian Standard NS 476 Inspector Level III (FROSIO Level III), certified as NACE Coating Inspector Level III or ICorr Inspector Level III.

  • Certificate Achieved: ICorr Level 3 Coating Inspector (inc. marine and offshore)
  • Pre-Requisites: ICorr level 2 Certificate and 3 years coating inspection experience.
  • Teaching Methods: 100% online training and online assessments with channels of communication by telephone, email and social forums to our authors and administrative staff for study support throughout the 12 months.
  • Course Duration: 12 months access to the course material is provided however it is recommended to take 60 to 80 hours to complete the modules. The benefit of studying this online course is the level of flexibility and the ability to fit your studying around your busy day job and home life. Students with a Corrodere ICorr Level 2 Certificate do not need to complete the online training again.
  • Assessment: The ICorr level 3 consists of theoretical and practical assessments. There are 40 general and 30 specific multi choice questions and 10 general and 5 specific essays, a practical assessment on equipment and practical on inspection procedures.
  • Marking Structure:
    ON Line All multiple choice online questions must be passed before attending the final assessment, unless students have already completed the online training at level 2.
    Final Assessment A minimum of 70% required to pass the theoretical assessment. A minimum of 70% required to pass the practical assessment. The practical examination shall be of sufficient duration, complexity and scope to verify the candidate’s ability to use test instruments correctly, inspect surface preparations (where applicable) and inspect coatings in real work situations.
  • Resitting Exams: Resit your exam within 12 months of receipt of result and receive 1 year’s access to the training material.
  • Certification: All examination candidates will be issued either with a standard Certificate of Achievement and Wallet Card or a Failure Notice by the ICorr Test Centre, normally within 21 days of completion of examination, providing that all examination fees have been paid or credit terms have been agreed. The period of validity of the certification is five years from the date of successful completion of an examination.
  • Recertification: Apply for recertification after five years, submit an up-todate CV and complete an online refresher course for a new 5 year card to be issued.
  • Payment: Payment of course fees are required upon application.
    Fees are refunded in full should an application be declined, or the student cancels the course within 14 days of registering.
  • Course Fees: Fees include 12 months access to our comprehensive online training programme, the one day assessment day and issuing of the official ICorr certificate and ID card.
